Re: Coronavirus Conspiracy Theories Are a Public Health Hazard

It’s worth putting time and effort into being accurate with the information you share.

Some basic tips:

  1. You should have an idea of the source for the information you’re sharing. If you come across something that seems outrageous, please do a quick search to see if any news organizations you’ve heard of have said anything about it.
  2. If something seems to be a rumor or you aren’t able to verify it, please state that it’s a rumor or unverified if you decide to share it.
  3. Don’t be racist.
  4. Use common sense. It sounds belittling, but I mean it honestly. If something you see on the internet sounds unbelievable, then you probably shouldn’t believe it. At the very least you should do a quick search before sharing.

Re: Coronavirus Slashed Global Air Pollution. This Interactive Map Shows How

I’m excited about a potentially smarter and healthier future for us.

“The rapid decrease we see in nitrogen dioxide due to covid-19 is unprecedented,” Dix said. “We are now witnessing a global experiment where one emission source is rapidly turned down (NOx), while other sources are still up or will decrease more slowly. A lot of atmospheric science will come out of this.”

Re: I’m Working at Rikers Island During the Pandemic. I Have Urgent Questions About Our Safety.

A friend of mine interviewed someone who works at Rikers Island and wrote about it. So many important questions we need answers to:

Right now, what I would like to ask is: What are the measures that will be taken if this outbreak takes over the island? How would the employees be treated? What would happen to inmates? How would the isolation go? We already have facilities on the island that are closed down. If they’re going to open these facilities, who are the people that are going to work there? No one would want to risk working in a place where a lot of people are very sick. How can we test everyone? We don’t have enough test kits in New York City. If you get sick, how would that affect your job? Are we going to get quarantined on the island? If so, how long would that be? What would be the outcome after? When all the smoke clears, are there going to be layoffs? We’re releasing all of these inmates. If the rate of inmates goes down, what’s going to happen in the facility? Because we have approximately 6,000 officers to 4,000 inmates. How is that going to go?

Bill Gates does not agree with this administration's stupid ideas

“There really is no middle ground, and it’s very tough to say to people, ‘Hey, keep going to restaurants, go buy new houses, ignore that pile of bodies over in the corner. We want you to keep spending because there’s maybe a politician who thinks GDP growth is all that counts,’” Gates said in an interview with TED Tuesday. “It’s very irresponsible for somebody to suggest that we can have the best of both worlds.”

Re: Why Losing Your Sense of Smell Could Be a Coronavirus Symptom

I’ve been hearing about this over the past few days. Loss of smell and/or taste might be a symptom of COVID-19. If you’re experiencing anything like that, it’s a good idea to self isolate until you’re feeling normal again.

Hopefully sometime soon I’ll be able to give the better advice of getting a home testing kit in this case.
